Description
How to Grow
Catalpa bungee is a dwarf variety of the Indian Bean Tree, it is a stunning deciduous tree with large, simple leaves with a gorgeous bronze tint to them. As they can still grow up to 7m (22’9”) tall and 4m (13’1”) wide so space will be needed for them to be able to be fully appreciated and seen at their best. If the tree is left to grow freely, in the summer they offer pale pink trumpet-shaped blooms which are followed by bean like pods. If the tree is trimmed into a ball, then the flowers will be more discreet. A perfect, elegant tree to offer garden shade. Height 7m (22’9”) and spread 4m (13’1”).

Grow Catalpa trees in fertile, moist but well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun with protection from strong winds.
More Info Water Indian Bean Trees regularly until fully established. Unripe wood is prone to frost damage, particularly in young plants. During cold periods, protect plants from the heaviest frosts. Catalpa needs little pruning when grown as a free standing specimen tree. However it responds nicely to pruning and can be pollarded annually to create a large rounded shrub.
