Description
Pot Marigolds are a garden favourite for their cheery summer blooms that bring a splash of sunshine to the garden. The daisy-like blooms of Calendula 'Orange' are loved by pollinating insects, making this a wonderful choice for wildlife areas. These bushy, well-branched plants are easy to grow, and demand very little maintenance. Perfect for filling pots on the patio, or edging beds and borders. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 25cm (10").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Calendulas have a slightly peppery taste and will add a light, tangy flavour to breads and soups, as well as adding a touch of colour. They will make a bright and tasty addition to a tossed salad. You can use fresh or dried petals as an economical substitute for saffron for adding colour to rice or butter. The fresh young leaves can also be used sparingly in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
When English Marigolds are well-grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in borders and containers in sun or partial shade.
More Info
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Deadhead faded calendula flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced and prevent them from self seeding. Culinary note: Calendula flowers are edible. The petals have been used as a substitute for saffron, and they make a bright and zesty addition to salads.
