Pinguicula will need permanently moist (but not soggy) slightly acidic soil. This is best achieved by planting in a mixture of ericaceous compost and moss, plus regular watering in a water tray throughout the growing season - avoid watering from above. Always use rainwater or distilled water, as carnivorous plants are particularly sensitive to the chemicals contained in tap water. Pinguicula do not need feeding - they will catch all of the food that they need themselves on their sticky leaves. After flowering, cut back stems to the base of the plant and allow the plant to slowly become dormant. The compost should be kept just moist throughout the winter. Resume watering, when plants start into growth again. During winter these plants require a temperature of around 5C (32F).
