Prefers a rich, light, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position where they won)t be disturbed for several years.

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.

Sow 0.25 inch (6 mm) deep, Feb to July, in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 70-75F (20-25C). After sowing, seal the seed tray, pot etc. in a polythene bag and keep at 70F (20C) for 3 weeks, then place in a refrigerator at 5C (40F) for 3 weeks. After this place in warmth 70F (20C). Germination then takes 14-30 days.

Transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots when large enough to handle, taking care not to damage the roots. Acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions before planting out in full sun 30cm (12in) apart.

Orders for packets of seed incur a delivery charge of £1.95.

Reasonable 2015-05-08

An interesting process to promote germination which is quite successful. Plants are decent but the flowers are disappointing. All the same orangey-pink and with little of the darker markings shown in the picture very small. Other alstro varieties are more desirable.

Excellent germination and easy to grow 2013-03-13

The seed were sown in potting medium last October and kept in the greenhouse between 60F and 65 F. 29 seeds germinated and have been grown on in 3" pots. Plants are currently between 3" and 8" high and several have multiple shoots. These have been far easier to grow than I expected, from the way they are growing I am expecting a reasonble show of flowers. Watch this space
