Description

This magnificent Agapanthus collection will grace your summer garden with elegance and stature. Including sky blue, royal blue & white pinstripe and plum-purple flowers, these spectacular Agapanthus flowers are balanced on tall stiff stems, making superb cut flowers, or alternatively forming attractive autumn seed heads if left intact. With large strap-shaped leaves and distinctive flower heads, these impressive hardy perennials are ideal for adding architectural presence to borders and containers.

  • Collection comprises 1 plant each of:
  • Agapanthus 'Pitchoune Blue' - Sky-blue flowerheads rise above the strappy, semi-evergreen foliage over a long period making this a useful choice for patio containers. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").
  • Agapanthus 'Moonlight Star' - A striking bicolour variety boasting pretty pin-striped flowers of pale-blue with a royal-blue streak to each petal. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").
  • Agapanthus 'Midnight Cascade' - Plum-purple blooms give this alluring perennial a distinctive appearance, producing exceptionally dark flowers throughout the summer. Height: 70cm (27"). Spread: 45cm (18").

How to Grow
Pot up Agapanthus plants and grow them on in cool, bright, frost-free conditions over winter. Although hardy when mature, young Agapanthus plants require some protection throughout their first winter. Once plants are well grown in the spring and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun. To grow agapanthus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Feed and water African Blue Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded. Caution: Agapanthus is harmful if eaten, and the sap may irritate the skin and eyes.
