It's easy to see why this fern holds an RHS AGM! Handsome, upright fronds of up to 1.5m (59"), with gently drooping tips give Matteuccia struthiopteris its common name of Shuttlecock Fern. This noble perennial forms a large rosette of foliage that makes a spectacular display in spring as the new fronds begin to unfurl. A superb plant for damp, shaded borders, woodland gardens or when planted in the moist soil at the edge of ponds. Matteuccia is at its best when planted in large colonies for maximum impact! Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Plant Matteuccia in a sheltered spot. Choose a position in dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral soil. Matteuccia ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
More Info Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Apply mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant in spring.
