Consider your planting location carefully when growing wisterias as they can be difficult to move once established due to their woody stems and support requirements.

Wisteria plants prefer a sunny or semi-shaded site in moist, well drained soil. Wisteria flower buds can be damaged by frost, so choose a sheltered spot if possible.

Wisterias also need pruning, so consider how you'll do this as your shrub grows.

Pruning allows more light in, encouraging the wood to ripen and flower buds to flourish, rather than all the energy being spent on foliage.

Prune twice a year, first in summer after flowering and second in late winter when dormant.
