Fuchsia 'Hardy Collection'

Fuchsia 'Delta's Sarah', Fuchsia 'Shrimp Cocktail', Fuchsia 'Dollar Princess'

Hardy Shrub

 Customer Rating

This collection of outstanding hardy fuchsias makes a colourful addition to containers and borders. Compact and bushy, they will flower non-stop from early summer to autumn, growing in stature with the passing years. Height and spread: 90cm (36").

  • Collection comprises:
  • Fuchsia ‘Shrimp Cocktail' - A fusion of marbled hot pink petals with a candy blush; each bloom totally unique and almost luminous against the dark foliage.
  • Fuchsia ‘Dollar Princess' - This upright bushy RHS AGM variety bears a profusion of double purple blooms with contrasting cerise pink sepals.
  • Fuchsia ‘Delta's Sarah' - A beautiful bush variety that produces a succession of supremely weather resistant, unusual coloured blue flowers, up 6cm (2½") in diameter.

Pot up hardy fuchsias using well drained compost such as John Innes No.3, and grow on in warm, frost-free conditions. Pinch out the growing tips while fuchsia plants are still small to promote bushier growth and more flowers. When plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period, before planting them in their final positions in patio containers and sunny or semi shaded borders.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded fuchsia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a deep bark mulch around the base of hardy fuchsias in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Prune stems back to a low permanent framework in spring.

  1. Little fuschia plug plants all thriving

    By Sharon Gunason Pottinger 29-08-2015

My plug plants were ordered almost as an afterthpught and when they came, they looked so tiny! But I potted them on and soon had to repot them. In the couese of the season they have grown into respectable looking little shrubs--now my only concern is how hardy-hardy is. I live in the far north of Scotland. The actual temp does not get too low, but the winds off the sea are cold and salty and persistent. I would hate to lose them now.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am glad to hear that you have been happy with your order. I would suggest to apply a deep bark mulch around the base of the stem. This will protect the roots from cold weather in winter. If you have any further queries at all, you are welcome to contact our Customer Care Team at

  2. No Delta's Sarahs :(

    By Liz Sherratt 14-08-2015

I received the 6 little plants in mid-June & potted them up as instructed. They looked pretty healthy, but unfortunately one of the (supposedly) Delta’s Sarahs wilted & died within a few days. I was rather disappointed as it was the unusual colours of the Delta’s Sarah that I particularly liked within the Collection. The 5 plants have continued to grow healthily, and have come into flower. Unfortunately, as for the other reviewer, none of them are Delta’s Sarah–the plants that were supposed to be Delta’s Sarah & Dollar Princess are ALL Shrimp Cocktail! I really wanted some NON-pink plants for the border–that’s why I ordered the collection.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to learn of your disappointment with your purchase. If you would like to contact our Customer Care Department at, one of our agents will be more than happy to advise accordingly.

I was really looking forward to the variety of colours, & had planned where each was to go in the garden. It is fortunate that I hadn’t just planted them out before they flowered otherwise I would have been even more upset. It’s vv disappointing–2 months of tender care & anticipation only to find that they’re not what they’re supposed to be.

  3. Not as Described

    By Barbara Pitter 26-07-2015

Having bought these three varieties due to their unusual and different colours, I am so disappointed that now that all the plants have flowered, they are all exactly the same light pink. I am tempted to consider whether I was actually really sent the varieties I ordered. Gutted.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to learn of the error with your order. If you would like to contact our Customer Care Department at, one of our agents will be more than happy to look in to this further for you.

    By Naghmana Ishaq 02-05-2015

My plug of hardy fuchsia has arrived and I have pottedi in small pots but one of the delta Sarah has died just a quick question they too small to pot in borders as they are hardy plants I want them to make good shrubs later should I leave them in pots to grow bigger to plants in borders ? And how long I have to wait for them to plants in borders.

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear that one of your Fuchsias have failed. If you would like to contact our Customer care team on, one of our agents will be able to investigate this matter further. Your Fuchsia plugs are hardy but they will need growing on in frost-free conditions until all risks of frost have passed and they are well developed before planting in borders.

  5. Hardy Collection

    By Ann Dean 29-10-2014

This is very good value. All 9 plants grew well and 8 are in the garden now. I had a good display of flowers from the shrimp cocktail and the army nurse, both of which are lovely colours. I didn't expect flowers in the first autumn. The Delta's Sarah as mentioned above has not come out white and blue but is pale pink with pale lilac. Having planted it in a blue and white boarder this is rather disappointing. It has not flowered much this year, so I will have to see what it is like next year.

Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your recent purchase. If you would like to contact our Customer care team on, one of our agents will be happy to investigate this matter further.

  6. Hardy collection - fuschia

    By Mike Richardson 30-06-2014

The plugs arrived in June (sooner than expected), with instructions, and were planted indoors - 5 in one trough, 4 in another. Two have lost the will to live (my fault as I've just started the hobby), but the others are now outside, still in troughs, 10" tall, and one has started flowering. I've ordered other items and no issues so far.

Thank you for your review. I hope we can continue to be of service.

  7. Fuchsia 'Hardy Collection' 3

    By anette Ungeheuer 14-09-2012

The plugs were all well rooted and looked fresh. My plants grew nicely, however the Delta's Sarah is not blue at all and the shrimps cocktail not as advertised. I still give a satisfying rating because I got a wonderful deep purple, velvety plant which I like very much.

  8. Hardy Collection - Fuchsia

    By Natasha Hannah-Lyons 25-04-2012

The plugs arrived in great condition with a detailed aftercare booklet. I planted them on but kept them indoors thanks to the greatest british weather but they are doing well and growing into fantastically healthy plants and i cannot wait to plant them out into the garden.

  9. Fuchsia 'Hardy Collection' 3

    By Rita Fox 07-08-2011

These 9 jumbo plugs (3 of each variety) arrived in superb condition in May/June and since planting in large pots they have grown to magnificent bushy plants that look stunning all around my patio and by my front door. I am very pleased and as they are hardy I am hoping to keep them for a number of years. Very good value.
