Hubbard squash have excellent, fine-grained, thick golden yellow flesh with a sweet flavour to match. The rather warted skin is a rich orange. Fruit weight average 3.5-4kg (7-8 lb). Very long storage over winter in a cool place indoors at 10C (50F).

Sow seed 1cm (0.5in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots of free-draining sowing mix. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag and place at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which takes 7-10 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Can also be sown direct outdoorsonce the soil has warmed. Sow 2 seeds every 90cm (36in) and thin out to the best seedling.
Gradually acclimatise plants grown under cover to outdoor conditions for a few days before planting out after all risk of frost, 90cm (36in) apart.
Plants have a vigorous trailing habit but can be trimmed to keep in check. Harvest up to first frost.
