Pea 'Sugar Flash' (Sugarsnap)

Pisum sativum

Hardy Annual

 Customer Rating
Early to pod, only 9 weeks from sowing, and producing abundant crops of stringless, juicy, sweet Sugarsnap pea pods, each around 7cm (3”) in length. Pea 'Sugar Flash' has good heat tolerance during hot summer conditions and powdery mildew resistance that ensures excellent yields. This versatile variety can be picked as a Mangetout just as the 'peas' begin to swell, but are best left until swollen in the pods for maximum sweetness when eaten whole as Sugar snap peas. Height: 70cm (28”). Spread: 25cm (10”).

Direct sow Sugarsnap peas outdoors from March to June, once the soil as warmed. Choose a weed-free position on moist, fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Sow Sugarsnap seed in flat bottomed drills at a distance of 5cm (2") apart, and 4cm (1½") deep. Allow a distance of 75cm (30") between rows. For successional crops, sow Sugarsnap peas every 10 days.
Support Sugarsnap plants with twiggy sticks, wire or netting as they grow, and use fine netting to protect pea crops from birds and pea moth damage. When growing Sugarsnap peas, regular and thorough watering especially when in flower will improve crop yields. Harvest edible podded peas around 12-13 weeks after sowing just as the peas inside start to form. Regular picking will encourage further cropping.

  1. Brilliant germination

    By Nicola Milligan 09-06-2012

I've had real problems this year with Snap pea germination. With two varieties from two other vendors giving appalling germination (8%). I got these seeds from T&M this week, and given problems with others again used damp kitchen towel. My germination bowl is full of peas that are shooting after only 3 days, and will be getting planted tomorrow. Well done T&M! I'll put on another review once I've tasted the peas in several weeks time, but at least I finally have plants in the making!
