Sow outdoors in your vegetable plot or in pots indoors and plant out. Before sowing, prepare the ground well by raking until the soil is fine and crumbly and remove any large stones. Sow seed outdoors in warm soil, sowing 2-3 seeds in a cluster 5cm (2") deep, allowing 20cm (8") between each cluster, and space 45cm (18in) between the rows. Alternatively early sowings can be made under glass, for planting out once they have germinated and have at least 2 pairs of leaves. Simply fill 7.5cm (3") pots with a good, free-draining, damp, seed compost and sow seeds 2.5cm (1") deep in the compost and place in a warm place at 18-21C (65-70F).
