Direct sow Leaf Beet seed outdoors from March to August. Grow Swiss Chard in a well prepared, moist, fertile seedbed in full sun or partial shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½") in drills 30cm (12") apart. Thin seedlings to 7cm (3") apart for 'baby leaves' which will be ready to harvest approximately 50 days from sowing. For larger chards/leaves thin to 15cm (6") apart, or 23cm (9") for mature plants.
Water Swiss Chard regularly, particularly during dry periods to ensure that the soil remains moist. Harvest Leaf Beet regularly by selecting a few leaves from each plant to promote fresh growth and to extend the cropping season.

Second time lucky

Slugs and snails love chard nearly as much as me and I lost the first sewings overnight. Now with the help of eggshells and slug bait I have a beutiful crop which goes down just as well with adults and children. Tastes great, I'll definately be growing this one next year.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review. I was particularly interested in the slug and snail deterrents. I hope we can continue to be of service to you for years to come.
No germination this year after great success last.

Bought these last year and had delicious and very pretty Chard for months so wanted to grow them again this year. No sign of germination so I've bought plugs from a Garden Centre. I guess we've just been unlucky this year.
