Pot up, and grow tomato plants on in warm frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Choose a sheltered position in full sun on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and transplant at a distance of 60cm (24") apart. Alternatively grow tomatoes in patio bags and containers in good quality compost such as John Innes No. 2. Drive a (5') cane into the soil adjacent to each plant to support them as they grow, and tie each main stem to its support with soft garden twine.
Water tomato plants frequently, to keep the compost evenly moist. Feed tomatoes regularly with a high potash plant food once the first fruits have formed. Tomatoes can be harvested as they ripen from July to September. Dwarf bush varieties do not require staking or side shooting.

  1. Received my plugs in “extremely” poor condition.

    By Chris Andrew 13-05-2014

Dear Sir/Madam, I received my Tomato “Rainbow Blend” F1 Hybrid plugs from you 13/05/14, you dispatched them 07/05/14 so they have spent 6 days in the post. My plants were in “extremely” poor condition, some with yellow/black leaves, some with damaged leaves, some dried out and even 2 with completely snapped main stems. I’m really not happy with these at all I paid £11.99p for 5 healthy plants and that’s not what I received today, please can you advise what we do next??????? This is not the first time I have received plugs in very poor condition. Kind regards Chris
