  • The family sprout - even children love them!

Thanks to continuous breeding work striving for a better, sweeter flavour, this modern hybrid has a superb flavour that sets it apart from other varieties. Brussels Sprout 'Trafalgar' produces a heavy crop of medium sized, firm button sprouts from mid December to late March that will retain their excellent quality over a long period of time. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Please note: Delivery is subject to plant size, and adverse growing conditions during production may delay despatch schedules.

Companion planting: Try growing Brussels sprouts with Nasturtiums to draw cabbage white butterflies away from your crop, and mint to help deter flea beetles.

T&M's easy starter plants are delivered ready for planting at the correct time so that you can enjoy bigger, earlier and tastier vegetables. Gradually acclimatise brassicas to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting outdoors.

Grow Brussels sprouts plants deeply in firm, rich fertile, well drained soil in sun or semi shade. A site that has previously cultivated beans or peas is ideal. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Plant Brussels sprouts at a distance of 60cm (24") apart and cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.

Water Brussels sprouts regularly and do not allow them to dry out as this may impair their development. Hoe between plants regularly to prevent weeds from establishing and bring insect larvae to the surface. Remove any yellowed or diseased leaves as they occur. Brussels Sprout 'Trafalgar' can be harvested from December and their flavour will be improved if they are left exposed to the first frosts. Culinary note: Brussels sprouts are suitable for freezing.
