Summer SavorySatureja hortensis With slender bronze green leaves and lilac tubular flowers, this hardy annual makes an attractive addition to the herb garden. Summer Savory lends an aromatic peppery tang to soups and seafoods. It’s mild flavour is useful as an alternative to sage or thyme, and it is also used to aid digestion, reduce fevers and soothe bee stings. Grown next to Broad Beans it is reputed to help repel black fly. Gather Summer Savory when harvesting your broad beans and them cook together - it does wonders for the flavour. Basil 'Siam Queen'Ocimum x citriodorum A particularly fragrant selection and a distinct improvement over other Thai Basils. BorageBorago officinalis, Tailwort, Talewort A beautiful hardy annual herb with rough leaves covered in silvery hairs and the most attractive celestial blue flowers. Nectar rich borage flowers are particularly attractive to pollinating insects, including bees which make distinctive flavoured borage honey. This versatile upright herb has a multitude of uses - add the cucumber flavoured leaves to summer drinks and salads, grow it as a companion plant close to other crops to attract pollinating insects, and at the end of the season plants make a useful bulky addition to the compost.
