Pastinaca sativa. Slender, bayonet shaped roots, virtually coreless and tender and sweet. Sow regularly for fresh roots throughout the summer and autumn. Parsnip Arrow is ideal in deeper containers with a minimum depth of 37cm (14½in), or outside in the garden.
Sow seeds from March to May. Sow seeds thinly direct outside or in containers, 13mm (½in) deep.
Thin as necessary to 25mm (1in) apart.
Keep well watered during dry weather.
Parsnips are a good source of energy boosting carbohydrates and are high in Vitamin C and potassium.
Tasty, sweet and juicy when harvested as baby roots.
