A unique selection from the sizzling Salvia range, this red striped form is particularly striking and an excellent addition to beds and borders. Long flowering and with strong, tall spikes held above the lush foliage. Height: 23-30cm (9-12in).
Sow February to April. Germinate at 20-30C (68-86F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 21-24 days.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cool, well lit conditions, giving an occasional nitrogen feed to keep the leaves green. Plant out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
Prefers any well drained soil in full sun.
