Kale : Black Tuscany

the fully grown plants of Kale Black Tuscany have attractive dark green, deeply savoyed, strap-like leaves with traditional winter hardiness, making this a useful winter to spring vegetable at a time when fresh garden produce is scarce. Increasingly popular, Cavolo Palmizio Senza Testa can be used as a 'baby salad leaf' to add colour, texture and taste to mixed salads. The mature plant of Kale Cavolo Palmizio Senza Testa can also be used as a winter hardy vegetable when fresh produce is in short supply.

Kale : Dwarf Green Curled

Kale Dwarf Green Curled produces dark, tightly curled leaves. Excellent quality, very cold hardy, Kale Dwarf Green Curled is good for difficult or windswept gardens or poor wet soils.

Kale : Fizz

Kale Fizz is a fast growing kale with an upright plant habit which is a product of British breeding in brassica leaves with new leaf shapes and textures. These highly nutritious salad leaves, which are deeply and finely lobed, will complement any mixed leaf salad.

However, if Kale Fizz is grown outdoors or at wider spacings in a large container, the plants will be more productive and the larger leaves can be used as a cooked vegetable. Larger plants are very winter hardy.

Kale : Reflex F1 Hybrid

Curly Kale! Recent breeding has given Kale Reflex more intensely curled, succulent and nutritious, dark leaves which stand well without yellowing and can be picked for much of the year from successional sowings. Kale Reflex is fully winter hardy. Seeds are in the RHS Vegetable Collection.

Kale : Scarlet

Highly decorative, dark green, red veined leaves which show more colour as colder weather approaches. Kale Scarlet can be eaten as a 'salad leaf'. Mature plants show excellent winter hardiness, supplying fresh winter greens when they can often be scarce. Long season of harvest. Kale Scarlet prefers a moist, rich, well-drained soil. Good source of Vitamins A, C, K and folate and provides 50% of the daily requirement in a single 80g portion.

Kale : Starbor F1 Hybrid

Brassica oleracea convar. acephala. Grow all the year round as a 'baby leaf' indoors on the windowsill. Outdoors if given wider spacing it will make an abundance of densely curled leaves over a very long period. Winter hardy as a full sized plant.

Kale : Walking Stick

(Jersey Cabbage) This famous Channel Islands heirloom kale makes a tall, straight stem, 2m (6ft) tall topped with a rosette of edible leaves. When the stems of Kale Walking Stick mature in the autumn, they can be cut, carved and varnished to make attractive walking sticks. Plants left in a second year may run to seed or increase in height to over 3m (9½ft).
