In recent years we have introduced and developed vegetables that have achieved real steps forward in yield, flavour, space saving, disease tolerance; etc. This bean fits into this category and is outstanding in every way.

Almost foolproof, it attains huge crops from a small area. Long, broad, completely stringless, very fleshy 25-30cm (10-12in) pods. Very heavy cropping, often averages 40 pods per plant. As it is a shy seeder there is more juicy fleshy edible area, which accounts for the exceptional flavour. Compared with other runner beans it is much more productive under dry weather conditions. White flowered.

A very early cropper producing lots of pods and very little foliage, resulting in a tremendous crop of succulentm 15-20cm (6-8in) pods. Excellent for organic gardeners as this variety is Halo Blight tolerant. This means it will keep on cropping whilst other varieties are going down with this disease. British breeding at its best. Unique rose pink flowers. Bred for straight, fleshy, uniform 25cm (10in) long pods, which are stringless when young. Producing a very heavy yield over a long period. Interestingly, although pods are picked and eaten before seed development, the seed colour goes from pale red to blue to almost black.

Unique Teenie Beanie prolifically flowers, producing bunches of short pods up to 15cm (6in) long and 20mm (¾in) wide which are stringless at this stage.

Just keep picking for a continual crop of delicious 'baby pods' throughout the summer. Pods are stringless when young and of excellent flavour.

A premier variety in every way. The pure white flowers are less prone to being picked by birds, so the resulting crop is much greater. Plus, this variety sets better than any other when it comes to high temperatures. The long, mid green pods with white seeds hang in numerous clusters, and are both smooth and stringless. The result is a delicious vegetable which can be sliced or eaten whole with a garnish of butter.

Wisley Magic won an RHS AGM in the 1999 Runner Bean trials and was voted 'The Best on Trial' as it produced the heaviest yield of quality beans over a long picking season. Attractive bright red flowers produce long smooth, slender pods, easily reaching 35cm (14in) long. Although not stringless, Wisley Magic has a low fibre content and a superior flavour - that 'old fashioned' runner bean taste.
