Grow hyacinths in moist, fertile well drained soil in sun or semi shade. Plant hyacinth bulbs approximately 10cm (4") deep and at a distance of 8cm (3") apart.
To grow hyacinths for indoor displays, plant them in containers of bulb fibre or potting compost with the tip of the bulb just visible above the soil surface. Position them in a cool garage or other well ventilated, dark position at a maximum temperature of 7°C (44°F) for around 6 weeks. Water bulbs only when necessary in order to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 3cm (1"), move the containers to a cool bright position indoors.
Water container-grown hyacinths with care. Avoid over wetting the compost or allowing it to dry out. After flowering, indoor displays can be planted out doors where they will bloom the following spring. Hyacinths that are planted outdoors are virtually maintenance free. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.

Not black, but purple.
By Anne W. 21-02-2016
These are nice, but are not black, they are dark purple. Flowers were there for a couple of weeks before they deteriorated. The service from T&M was fine, but these are not colour as described.
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to learn of the disappointing results you have had with the colour of the flowers that your seeds produced. If you would like to contact our Customer Care Department at email@example.com, one of our agents will be more than happy to look in to this further for you.

MIne were very dark purple and looked stunning against the golden stone on my rockery - I have just returned from holiday to find a big hole in the rockery and my bulbs have gone (eaten by rabbits I think). Oh dear - and I can't order any more as they are out of stock.
Thank you very much for your review. I am glad that you have been happy with your purchase, although I am sorry to hear that they have been eaten. Hopefully we will have these for sale again soon. If you would like to enter your email address, we will let you know as soon as they are available again.

These are not black, they are a beautiful flower and easy to grow, smell wonderful but are a deep royal purple not a hint of black to be seen. A real shame as I love black flowers.
Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your order. If you would like to contact our Customer care team on firstname.lastname@example.org, one of our agents will be happy to investigate this further for you.

Very easy to grow. They are infact a very dark purple, can also see black there aswell, from a distance they seem quite black, close up, a lovely deep purple, with a lovely shiny sheen, I have got 18 of these out, look very nice, and when I sat out, every so often, there was a wift of lovely scent. A tad expensive, but, rare, and worth it. Thanks TM for these.

A great shame about the price. The three Bulbs I planted certainly delivered the goods .I must admit part of me was expecting dark blue but these were so close to black in colour. They produced lovely full heads of flowers despite the very hard winter and frosts. It will be interesting to see what happens next spring
blackest flower i've seen

i was a bit dubious about these when i first got them, thinking that the picture had been altered in some way, But when these actually flowered the first time i was blown away they were almost pure black, with an excellent scent too, definitely recommend..
