On arrival soak bare roots for 30 minutes in water or in a seaweed solution before planting out. Plant climbing strawberry plants in well manured, free draining soil in full sun. Alternatively try growing strawberry plants in hanging baskets, window boxes and patio containers. Provide a suitable support to train the long runners onto.

Water strawberries frequently throughout the growing season. When growing strawberry plants in baskets and containers, they will also need feeding every two weeks. Tie the long runners onto their supports with soft twine or garden ties. Protect the developing fruit from slugs and snails by spreading straw around the base of each plant. Positioning a net over the plants will also prevent crop damage by birds. The netting and straw can be removed after cropping to allow better air flow around the crown of the plant. Cut back the long runners in autumn and remove any old, damaged or decaying foliage. Mulch strawberry plants with well rotted manure in spring.

Although strawberry plants will continue to fruit in successive years, the crop will become considerably reduced and it is advisable to completely replace strawberry plants every 3 years.

Reviews
  1. Not all of them grew

    By Zoe Lynch 31-03-2017

2 out of 5 of my strawberry plants never grew anything from the bare roots. Out of the other three, one is doing very well and the other two have one leaf each. Bit disappointed, as they are quite expensive compared to other strawberries around! Hopefully the three that are left make up for it :(

  2. Still picking on the 5th October in Fife

    By Jackie Reid 05-10-2015

Bought five plants this year. Excellent taste smell and size. Picked one this morning which was 6cm long and very plump. If it was possible to show a pic with the tape measure I would We grew these in a poly tunnel with a few canes and let them do there own thing. What a harvest. We took cuttings and got a few strawberries on these too. Best Buy this year by far.
