Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the ground prior to planting Blackberries. Plant blackberry bushes in a sunny position in any well drained soil allowing a distance of 90cm (36") between plants. Firm in and water well. Primocane Blackberries should be pruned to 30cm (12") immediately following planting to encourage more shoots to be produced. Primocane varieties have an upright growth habit and do not require supports for their stems.
Water well for the first year until blackberry plants are fully established. Cover the plants with netting to protect the crop from birds as blackberry fruits begin to develop. Blackberries can be harvested from August onwards. Prune primocane Blackberry plants to ground level each February and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the canes. This will help to retain moisture throughout the summer.

  1. Good Plant

    By Alison O'Brien 27-08-2015

I bought the 3 lite plant last year and had a good crop of fruit in the first year. Lovely big black berries very tastey but maybe not as sweet as the description suggets. Mine definately had a slight sharpness to them nowhere near 'as sweet as a sweet strawberry'. The plant sent suckers up and has this year produced a huge plant. Loads of blackberries. I don't know if any are going to ripen this year however but that's more to do with the horrendous weather we are having in 'not so sunny' Wales. Overall a good plant and worth having in the garden.

  2. disappointed

    By Danny Smart 12-06-2015

Plant came damaged clearly forced to fit in the box. Many broken growths had to be largely pruned to save - looked truly sorry for itself won't be using T&M again I'd rather grow my own or inspect and buy myself at a garden centre or nursery.
