Sow from spring to late summer at 20-25C (68-77F) in a good seed compost. Sow seed on surface of compost and keep soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light, sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is helpful. Germination usually takes 14-21 days.

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow in an open coldframe for the summer and shade from strong sun. Move to a cool greenhouse in autumn.

Always water with care to prevent water settling on the crown of the plant. Spring sown plants flower in winter and summer sown plants in spring/summer.

  1. Surprising Lucky Dip

    By Peter Humphrey 04-06-2012

This seed arrived courtesy of T & M's lucky dip, I have never bothered with these before and what a surprise they have been. A mixture of mid blue and white, the palest of pale pinks which has now turned almost white and a series of intense purples/purple & white. I am sitting here with a row of these on the window sill and a tower of navy blue/purple sweet peas beyond, a stunning combination. Thank you Thompson and Morgan for introducing me to an interesting pot plant.
