Antirrhinum majus 'Bronze Dragon'

Snapdragon

These eye-catching, bushy, dwarf plants have the darkest, almost black foliage we have ever seen on an Antirrhinum! Truly outstanding in borders or containers and can also boast very good rust resistance.

Sow seed on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp seed compost. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag at 20-25C (68-77F) until after germination which usually takes 10-21 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 23-30cm (9-12in) apart.

Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage further blooming.

  1. Very Impressed!

    By Zulfiqar Ilahi 18-03-2015

I grew this last year and I was very impressed. I always start off my snapdragon seeds in a small pot. I never cover them and place the small pot in small freezer bag. This creates a humid environment for the seeds and they germinate a treat. This variety was very unusual too. The dark foliage in particular fascinated a few of my friends. When it was in bloom it looked amazing! This variety will definitely have pride of place in my garden this year too. It's well worth the effort to raise this snapdragon from seed. Just pot up the seedings into individual small pots and plant out in May. Well done to T&M for breeding this little beauty.
