Echinacea 'Papallo Collection'

Coneflower

Hardy Perennial

Instantly recognisable, Echinacea’s have always been a firm favourite for summertime perennial borders. The bright and cheerful colours of coneflowers not only look spectacular in drifts, they are also a great attraction for bees and butterflies, making them perfect for a wildlife garden too! Height 50cm (20").

Your Echinacea 'Papallo Collection' will be made of several varieties from those listed below and can be planted out or potted up immediately on delivery for strong establishment in the garden ahead of winter.

  • Echinacea purpurea ‘Papallo Compact White’ - purest white petals perfectly surround the central cone on this compact growing variety, ideal for beds and containers alike.
  • Echinacea purpurea ‘Papallo Compact Pink’ - The classic colour, deep pink blooms produced on compact plants that are perfect for growing in containers as well as flower beds and borders.
  • Echinacea purpurea ‘Papallo Semi-Double Pink’ - a gorgeous variety that combines the features of Echinacea but with a lovely semi double flower, the centres being deeper pink frills with surrounding paler, larger petals to accent them.
  • Echinacea purpurea ‘Papallo Semi-Double White’ - a really stunning variety; feathery outer petals of pristine white form a delicate frame for the masses of creamy-yellow central blooms that cover the central cone, an eye catching addition to any collection.
  • Echinacea purpurea ‘Papallo Classic Rose’ - Delicately pale pink petals and an almost golden central cone add a touch of elegance to your summer borders. A delight to behold as a cut flower too!

Pot up echinacea plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to transplant outdoors. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting out in borders. Grow echinacea plants in a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Coneflowers prefer a deep, fertile soil and will benefit from the addition of some well rotted manure or garden compost to soil, prior to planting.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until coneflower plants are fully established. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. In autumn, cut back faded echinacea flower stems and apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant. Divide overcrowded plants in autumn or spring.
