Chrysanthemum 'Bumper Pack'

Half-hardy Perennial

Subtle autumnal shades harmonise with striking, bold colours in this outstanding chrysanthemum collection. A bold combination of tall, half hardy varieties with reflexed and incurved petals, mixed with lower growing, hardy chrysanthemums that form neat mounds of colour. Savour the colourful shades of these magnificent perennials in your autumn garden when summer bedding plants have faded away. Their vibrant blooms also make excellent and long lasting cut flowers. Height: Up to 90cm (36”). Spread: 45cm (18”).

Chrysanthemum collection contains 5 plants each of:
Incurved Mixed – Sturdy stems bear rounded blooms with magnificent incurved petals.
Hardy Patio Mixed – Well branched plants produce rounded domes of colour.
Decorative Mixed – Backward facing petals create colourful flower heads on strong stems.

Companion planting: Try growing Chrysanthemums with chives, whose aromatic leaves will deter aphids.

Pot up chrysanthemum plants and grow them on in bright frost free conditions. Pinch out the top 5cm of each stem when they reach a height of 15cm to produce a bushier plant with more flowers. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise chrysanthemum plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days before planting them out in borders and containers in fertile, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun.
Water chrysanthemum plants moderately until fully established, taking care not to overwater. As reflexed and incurved chrysanthemum flower stems develop they will require staking with garden canes to support and protect them. Decorative chrysanthemum flowers will be larger if stems are 'disbudded'. Gradually remove all buds and side shoots except for the central bud on each main stem. In frost prone areas, cut back the faded stems after flowering, then lift chrysanthemum crowns and store them in fresh compost in a frost free position, until they can be replanted in spring. The short hardy chrysanthemums will not require staking and can left outdoors over winter. In late autumn the application of a deep mulch will help to protect the crowns of the plants from winter conditions. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
