Centaurea 'Gold Bullion'

Hardy Perennial

Light up the garden with the chartreuse-yellow foliage of this very special cornflower. The high-wattage leaves seemingly glow in the evening half light, offering dramatic contrast to the electric blue flowers no matter the time of day. This easy grow perennial produces an abundance of blooms from late spring to early summer - remove spent flowers and new blooms just keep on coming. Plant Centaurea 'Gold Bullion' en masse and this spreading perennial quickly knits together to create a carpet of glimmering colour in borders. Thrives best in full sun but can be placed in semi shade to brighten up darker corners of the garden. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Pot up Knapweed plants and grow them on in frost free conditions for transplanting outdoors later on. When plants are well-grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in borders in full sun. Knapweed is drought tolerant once established and will happily tolerate almost any soil, except those that are excessively waterlogged.
Water knapweed plants regularly until fully established. This plant will self-seed freely. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead stems of knapweed flowers as the blooms fade. In autumn, cut back old stems to just above ground level to make way for new growth in the spring.
