Pot up Alstroemeria plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, plant Peruvian Lilies in a sunny or semi shaded position in fertile, moist, well drained soil. Alternatively, plant Alstroemeria in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.

These tall Alstromeria plants will appreciate a climbing frame or similar support to protect their tall stems. Insert the support into the ground prior to planting and tie the stems in with soft twine throughout the growing season.

Throughout the growing season, water Peruvian lilies regularly and feed container grown plants each month. In autumn, cut back the old stems and apply a dry mulch of chipped bark or straw to the base of the plant to protect it from cold winter weather. Alstroemeria prefers to be left undisturbed but can be divided in autumn or spring if clumps become overcrowded. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.

Reviews
  1. Such a disappointment

    By Sue Wood 27-07-2014

I bought these plants last year and looked forward to having a vase full of my favorite flowers throughout the summer. I followed instructions and planted in a large tub ( as picture) They only grew to a approx 1ft with very few flowers but I thought they are just putting down a good root system and looked forward to a good display this year. No so !! they are exactly the same. I am so disappointed! I e-mailed Thompson and Morgan for help but they didn't reply. I wondered if I was sent the smaller plants and not giant ones?? I'm so disappointed I would not recommend them.
