Agapanthus 'Glenavon' (Large Plant)

African Blue Lily

Hardy Perennial

A particularly pretty African Blue Lily that deserves a prominent spot in your garden. Agapanthus 'Glenavon' produces dense, rounded umbels of pale blue flowers with a violet stripe along each petal. The sturdy stems each rise to 1m (3') above clumps of linear, semi evergreen foliage that makes useful groundcover. This hardy perennial is tough and reliable, coping well in most soils and at its best in a sunny position. Plant it in large clumps toward the middle of borders for a superb impact from July to September. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Grow Agapanthus plants in rich fertile, well drained soil, in a sunny position. When growing Agapanthus in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3 .
Feed and water African Lilies regularly throughout the growing season. Leave faded Agapanthus flower stems intact to enjoy their architectural seed heads during autumn. When the first frost blacken the seed heads, cut the stems back to ground level. Protect plants outdoors from severe winter weather by providing a dry mulch of bark chips or straw in late autumn. Container grown plants can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Divide agapanthus clumps in spring when they become over crowded.
