Geranium 'Best Red' F1 Hybrid

Pelargonium, Zonal Geranium, Zonal Pelargonium

Half-hardy Perennial

 Customer Rating

This exceptional variety, Geranium F1 'Best Red' outperformed all others in our trials. The uniform, well branched plants become smothered in large, shapely scarlet flowers that retain their form, without shattering as they fade. These vigorous pelargonium plants are guaranteed to create a top performance in beds, borders and containers. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 35cm (14").

Although technically perennial, Pelargoniums are only half hardy and therefore normally treated as annuals in the UK. However, with care, they may be overwintered in a frost free greenhouse.

Pot up pelargonium plants and grow them on in warm frost-free conditions. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise geranium plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days before transplanting them into their final positions in containers, beds and borders. Plant geraniums in a sunny or semi-shaded position, in any light, non-acidic, well drained soil. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage branching and form a bushier plant which will produce more flowers later on.
Feed and water geranium plants regularly, particularly during hot, dry periods. Regular deadheading of geranium flowers will encourage further blooms to be produced throughout the summer.

  2. Is it just me?

    By Juliet Foster 18-04-2015

36 mini plugs arrived and were potted on straight away upon opening. Only one third have survived. They were not in great shape when they arrived so goodness knows how they were treated or stored in the tranportation process because all other reviews seem to be glowing. I'll be purchasing the garden ready version instead because the mini plugs are not likely to be ready for the garden this year.
