Annual Plants


Annual plants fall under two categories - hardy and half-hardy. Hardy annuals can be grown outdoors and will tolerate cooler tempratures, whereas the more tender half-hardy annuals need protection and must not be planted out until all risk of frost has passed. These delightful summer flowers add colour and interest to beds, borders, containers and hanging baskets. Use the selections in the left menu to select the right plants for your garden.

Stock 'Most Scented Mix'

Matthiola incana, Gillyflower

With their spicy, clove-like scent, and tall sturdy stems, these stocks make fantastic cut flowers that bring fragrance and colour to your home. The closely packed flower spikes of this tall, clove scented mix emerge in a blend of at least 6 lovely pastel shades. This customer favourite mingles beautifully in cottage garden borders, or planted in large drifts and containers. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Night Phlox ovata

Aptly named, the Night Phlox will fill your evening garden with a rich and sweet scent from its delicate flowers. Each bloom has a white face, backed in red, which closes up from midmorning to then reopen much later in the day. Zaluzianskya ovate, is a half hardy, evergreen perennial which will tolerate our colder winters if given a little protection. As the name suggests, this superb Black Eyed Susan erupts into bloom weeks earlier than other perennial varieties and continues right up to the first frosts.
