Description
This woodland member of the buttercup family will swiftly multiply to form a glowing carpet of golden yellow flowers each spring. The cup shaped blooms of the winter aconite attract pollinating insects to your spring garden, and associate beautifully with snowdrops and bluebells for a spectacular woodland display. Easy to establish and virtually maintenance free, Eranthis hyemalis are ideal for planting in the dappled shade of deciduous trees, or naturalised in informal areas of grass. Height: 8cm (3"). Spread: 5cm (2").
Winter aconite bulbs are ideal for autumn planting. For spring planting choose winter aconites bulbs in the green. Only cultivated stock used.

How to Grow
Plant winter aconite bulbs in a sunny position or in the partial shade of deciduous trees. Eranthis hyemalis thrive in reliably moist, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting to improve less than ideal soils. Aconites should be planted at a depth of 5cm (2") and a distance of 5cm (2") apart. For natural looking drifts, gently cast the bulbs across the planting area and plant them where they land!

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
These bulbs require reliably moist soil throughout summer. Water them if necessary until they are fully established. When growing winter aconites, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally as this will feed the bulbs for the following year. Where bulbs are naturalised in grass, avoid mowing the area until their foliage has died back. Caution: All parts of winter aconites are harmful if eaten and the sap is an irritant to skin and eyes, Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten
