Polianthes tuberosa 'The Pearl'

Tender Bulb

  • The world's most fragrant bulb
Spikes of intensely fragrant, waxy white flowers are produced throughout summer, which make enthralling cut flowers. The semi-double, fragrant tuberose flowers of this relatively unknown bulb are carried above narrow, lance shapes leaves. Polianthes tuberosa requires a minimum temperature of 15C (59F) so it is ideal for a heated greenhouse or conservatory. It can also be grown outdoors in containers or sheltered sunny borders, if it is lifted and stored frost-free over winter. Bulb size: 14/16. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 20cm (8").

Polianthes tuberosa requires a minimum temperature of 15°C (59°F). Plant tubers in containers at a depth of 10cm (4") and grow them on until large enough to move outdoors when all risk of frost has passed. When growing tuberose in extremely mild areas, plant directly into moist, fertile, well drained soil in sheltered sunny borders.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Move containers of tuberose plants to a cool, frost-free position before the first frosts. Lift tubers from borders and store them in sand or peat in frost free conditions until ready to replant the following spring.

  1. Borderline for our climate but worth it

    By Nick Green 20-12-2015

Mine have been lovely, super quality, perhaps Ms Murphy in her arrogant review missed the point that suppliers like T & M do their best to supply top quality produce that gives it the best chance of success, they are not responsible for the genetic construction of what they sell nor can they control whether the end user has a clue about what they are doing. If you put the work in with these they are lovely in the conservatory, but delicate, just as T & M clearly say.

Thank you very much for sharing your review. I'm glad you were happy with your purchase. Thank you also for your recognition, we certainly do our best to select only the highest quality products for our customers. I hope we can continue to be of service to you in the future.
