Tubers are ideal for containers and baskets, making a larger plant in the first year than plug plants or growing from seed. From February, start tuberous begonias off in well-drained, moist compost in a warm, frost-free position in bright light. When planting begonia tubers, position them just below the compost surface with the indented side facing upwards. In hanging baskets the tubers can be planted at a 45 degree angle with their roots toward the centre, to encourage plants to cascade over the sides of the basket. When begonia plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in their final positions. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds.
Feed and water begonia plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water, as this will cause new begonia flower buds to drop. Deadhead the single female begonia flowers to encourage more of the large double male flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period.

I love these begonia tubers. So easy to grow in my hanging baskets and planters. Abundance of flower heads all summer. I have bought some more this year as I only have to remember to plant and feed and then remove and keep dry over winter...
Well don't T&M....

The tubers which I received were of a very small size and took a very long time, ( weeks), to throw up shoots. I phoned and complained as only 3 of the tubers produced growth. Replacements were despatched which were much bigger and sprung into growth much more quickly.
