Plant Small-Leaved Lime in moist soil that is also well drained. When initially planting, ensure plenty of compost or organic matter is incorporated into the planting hole to give the plant the best possible start.
Lime can be grown as a free-standing shrub or trained as a hedge. Free-standing shrubs will require minimal pruning; simply removed any dead, damaged or diseased growth each spring. Trim hedges in May and again in August. After pruning, mulch plants with 5cm (2") of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plants.
