Peony 'Garden Treasure'

Paeonia, Peonia, Itoh peony

Hardy Shrub

We truly believe Peony 'Garden Treasure' to be the very best Peony that money can buy! This rare hybrid between a border peony and a tree peony is very much sought after for its floral display, statuesque habit and fragrance. Expect more than 50 highly scented blooms each year once plants have matured. These top-performing peony plants just keep on going, lasting 40 years or more under ideal conditions. Plants give a statuesque, upright, tree peony. Height 100cm (39"). Spread 75cm (30").

Culinary note: The petals can be added to salads, or cooked slightly and sweetened for a treat. Peony water was also once considered a delicacy and the blooms can be floated in punches. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Bareroots should be planted at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Grow peonies in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Peony plants prefer a heavy soil that is rich in organic matter. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost prior to planting. Plant herbaceous peonies so that the top of the crown is just 5cm (2”) below the soil surface, taking care not to plant too deeply as this may prevent or delay peonies from flowering.
Feed and water peonies regularly until plants are fully established. In exposed positions the stems may require staking to support the large peony flowers. Cut back old foliage in autumn. When growing peonies on light sandy soil, a spring mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost may be applied around the base of the plant, taking care not to bury the crown as this may delay flowering.

Reviews
  1. Disappointing quality and poor growth

Arrived in December 2015. Disappointing size: only one growing eye and very little growth since. Poor value for money.
