Trachelospermum jasminoides

Star Jasmine, Confederate Jasmine, Jasmine trachelospermum

Hardy Shrub

 Customer Rating
Although Trachelopsermum jasminoides is not of the Jasmine family, it is often confused as such for its common name of Star Jasmine. This elegant evergreen climber bears thousands of pure white, star-shaped flowers throughout summer on twining woody stems. The glossy, evergreen foliage forms the perfect backdrop for its dramatic blooms which perfume the air with an irresistible, sweet fragrance. A stunning addition to a scented patio garden or grown against a sheltered wall for a truly glamorous display. Height and spread: 3m (9’).

Grow star jasmine plants in frost-free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When they are well grown, plant Trachelospermum jasminoides in fertile, well drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Choose a sheltered position that is protected from cold winter winds. In particularly cold areas, Trachelospermum jasminoides is best grown in patio containers of loam based compost, such as John Innes No.2, that can be moved to a protected position over winter. Provide the twining stems with an appropriate support such as trellis, wires or a free standing climbing frame.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. After flowering, reduce the stems to restrict them to the available space. Caution: The milky sap of trachelospermum is an irritant to skin and eyes Caution: irritant to skin and eyes

  2. Great Scent

    By david farrell 31-05-2012

I have one of these plants just by my back door and as soon as you open it its sweet smell floods into the house with its hundreds upon hundreds of flowers. The nice thing is with this plant is that the old flowers just drop off only to produce hundreds more. It also blocks any smell from my dogs which seem to glue themselves to my back door step constantly waiting to come in the house or receive some food.
