Description
A wonderfully distinctive variety of this old-fashioned favourite, featuring single, trumpet-shaped, pure-white flowers, with rich ruby-red centres from late summer. It has green foliage which remains all throughout the season. Hibiscus syriacus 'Red Heart' is an upright, multi-stemmed, spreading shrub, and although reasonably high maintenance, its average texture blends into the landscape well and is most attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies, meanwhile proving resistant to deer who seem to leave it alone. Height & Spread: 2.5m (8').

Culinary note: The flowers can be infused to make a mildly citrus flavoured tea. The petals can be cut and added to fruit salads too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established. Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter. Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring - they may remain dormant until May!

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
