Sowing Months Harvest Months

Harvest at 'golf-ball' size when sweet and succulent, about 5 weeks from sowing.

Sow seeds March to August at 4 week intervals. Sow seeds thinly, 1cm (1/2") deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in a rich, humus-rich, well-drained soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth. Turnips should be grown quickly and kept well watered.

Thin out seedlings when large enough to handle, to 2.5cm (1in) apart. Can also be sown under cloches in early spring and in late summer to extend the cropping season.
