The shimmering gold, perfumed blooms of this exotic looking variety are flushed with crimson red for a truly lavish display. Tree lilies® are the breathtaking result of years of painstaking breeding; these incredible varieties of oriental lily can grow as tall as 2.5m (8ft) in as little as two years. One single bulb of Tree Lily® 'Starburst' can produce up to thirty 20cm (8") trumpet blooms and will take on a shrub-like appearance over the years. The sturdy stalks are almost 5cm (2") thick, so they won't need supporting and the foliage remains lush all season. It couldn't be easier. Grow them through shrubs in borders, against walls and fences, or in large pots for the patio, and let them look after themselves. Height: 2.5m (8'). Spread: 60cm (24").

Flowering Months
Feed and water Oriental lily bulbs regularly throughout the growing season, keeping them moist at all times. Deadhead faded blooms at the base of the flower where they join the stem to prevent the development of seed pods. When cutting Oriental lily flowers for indoor arrangements, it is important to leave a third of the stem intact in order to feed the bulb for the following year. After flowering leave the stems intact until they begin to yellow in autumn. Reduce watering and move containers of lilies to a cool, frost free position over winter. Lilies grown in borders can be lifted, cleaned and stored for the winter, however in mild areas most lilies should survive outdoors provided that the soil is not too wet. A mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost should be applied in spring. Divide and repot container grown lilies into fresh compost every other year. Caution: All parts of Oriental lilies are toxic to cats.
Oriental lilies prefer a moist, free draining, neutral to acid soil that is rich in organic matter. Prior to planting, add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil to give your tree lilies® the best start. When growing lilies in containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2. Lily bulbs should be planted at a depth of approximately 3 times their own height and 15cm (6") apart. Planting deeply helps to protect the bulb during particularly hot periods. Choose a sheltered, sunny position where lilies will grow with their heads in the sun and their roots in the shade.

Wonderful plants 2016-03-08

These really are great plants and they do get better year by year. I actually do have a plant this year which is 8ft tall and has wonderful large blooms. All of my plants are planted in large pots and I leave them undisturbed, letting them die down naturally. The plants left in plastic pots over winter (outside protected from the wind) seem to do better than those left in earthern ware pots. Unfortunately, I have to spray my plants otherwise they get devastated by the ghastly lily beetle. I think you would have to do something drastically wrong not to have success with these plants. That also goes for bulbs I have purchased from other suppliers.

T&M replied on 2016-08-03: Thank you very much for your review. I am glad that you have been happy with your purchase. I hope we can continue to be of service to you in the future.

Exotic 2013-08-28

I planted these bulbs in a large half barrel, 3 starburst in the middle with 5 red lillies around the outside. They grew and grew, the result was absolutely fabulous and very exotic. I will be buying some more Starburst this year

the greatest lillys 2012-08-15

my favorite purchase from T&M this year when they arrived the bulbs where huge grapefruite size i put some in pots and some in beds the instructions said they get better with age but only 3 months after planting the bulbs the plants are close to 50cm high with huge flower buds at top about 6 on each plant some have now opened and are about 12-13cm across and with such an amazing strong smell these plants are supposed to get over 150cm (1.5 meters) high and look after themselfs A great buying choice Brett
