1 packet (14 tree fern seeds) (TX04050)

Syringe trunk daily from spring to autumn. Provide a minimum winter temperature of 7-13C (45-55F).

Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 70-75F (20-25C). Surface sow on a peat/sand mix seed compost and do not exclude light. Sow at any time of year. Surface sow onto moist sterile soilless compost. Do not cover with compost. Seal the seed container inside a polythene bag and leave in subdued light until germination, which can be from 10 days to a year or more. if the surface of the compost turns green this is a good sign and leave for the the next stage to form before the fronds start to appear. If there is no movement after 9 to 12 months, spray lightly with rainwater only to stimulate the spores

Transplant seedlings in small clumps, handling carefully, preferably into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Pot on as required into 13cm (5in) and finally 20cm (8in) pots. They prefer free draining compost with extra sand added. Grow in large pots or tubs in a shady greenhouse or conservatory.
