Description

The Kew Flowerhouse range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to bring the beauty of the garden inside. This outstanding range of handpicked seeds are perfect for enjoying in the garden or in the home. This range includes show-stopping flowers and elegant floral fillers ideal for a bouquet.

A mammoth sunflower which towers above all others and is perfect for sunflower growing competitions - wowing kids and adults alike. Sunflower ‘Russian Giant’ bears dinner-plate sized blooms up to 30cm in diameter. A great wildlife plant, providing a feast of nectar for bees and nutritious seeds for birds. It also makes a useful, quick growing screen to section off parts of the veg plot or disguise ugly features. The huge yellow flowers with dark centres make a spectacular centrepiece in a vase. Height 8-10ft.

Sowing
Sow early spring to early summer outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm (0.5in) deep in rows 45cm (18in) apart.For really giant sunflowers, sow them indoors in late winter/early spring, individually in 7.5cm (3in) pots at a temperature of 15-18C (60-65F). Grow on in good light conditions, harden off and plant out when all risk of frost has passed.

They prefer a sunny open site but will grow in most sites and soils.

Grow in full sun in well drained soil. Protect from slug damage whilst young. Stake plants well with strong canes.
