Flowering Months
Hesperantha bulbs prefer their roots to be moist at all times in order to flower well. Water bulbs regularly during dry periods to maintain a reliably moist soil. Deadhead faded Kaffir Lily flowers throughout the season to encourage more blooms to be produced. Cut back faded flower stems in autumn, and provide a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the plants from severe winter weather. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Schizostylis in spring.
Grow Schizostylis in reliably moist, well drained soil in full sun. Choose a position with shelter from strong winds. Less than ideal soils can be improved by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting. Plant Kaffir Lily bulbs at a depth of 5cm (2") and a distance of 30cm (12") apart.
