Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Although rarely seen in the garden centres, Sanguinaria canadensis f.multiplex is a beautiful plant for a damp shady spot in the garden. Small white blooms that resemble tiny waterlilies emerge from between the blue-green leaves in spring. The elegant flowers are delicately scented with a light, spicy fragrance. Interestingly the rhizomes of this hardy perennial exude red sap when cut, giving the plant it's common name of Bloodroot. Perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders and rockeries. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Flowering Months
Water Sanguinaria regularly during dry periods to ensure that the soil remains reliably moist. Although slow to establish, it will form spectacular spreading colonies in time. Lift and divide overcrowded groups immediately after flowering. Bloodroot will die back in summer for a period of dormancy. Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.
Plant bareroot Bloodroot plants at the earliest opportunity following delivery in reliably moist, well drained, fertile soil. Sanguinaria is a woodland plant and thrives in damp areas of semi or dappled shade - it will even grow in deep shade where few other plants would cope.
