Sowing
Where to sow: Best sown thinly in a pot on the windowsill regularly from October to February for fresh leaves all year round or can be direct sown outdoors.
Preparation: Indoors - fill a pot or pots with good seed sowing compost. Outdoors - prepare the soil by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones.
Sowing: Sow very thinly outdoors, 1cm (1/2in) deep in drills 7.5cm (3in) apart or in pots. Thin seedlings if necessary, when large enough to handle, to 1cm (1/2in) apart.
Growing: Keep weed free and water well during dry periods. Harvest baby salad leaves as required, by picking a few leaves from each plant.
More Info
Water salad leaves regularly. Dry weather may cause plants to bolt so watering is particularly critical. Harvest baby salad leaves when required by picking a few leaves from each plant.
