Description

Forming dense, low mounds of evergreen, aromatic foliage, purple sage is great for edging borders and creating a foil for flowering plants whilst also providing a staple herb for the kitchen. It’s also drought tolerant and perfect for containers. The young leaves emerge grey-green and mature to purple, and the purplish, two-lipped flowers are attractive to beneficial pollinators, making it an excellent choice for edging veg beds. In herb beds, it makes a lovely partner with golden leaved thymes. Height & Spread: 60cm (24").

Culinary Herb note: Some parts of these plants are edible and can be used as herbs to add flavour and colour to your meals. For more details about edible flowers click here.

How to Grow
Pot up plug plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions until plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise Sage to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out at a distance of 38cm (15") apart on any fertile, free draining, non acidic soil in full sun.
More Info
Once established sage requires little attention and copes well with dry conditions. Prune sage plants in spring to encourage new shoots with a strong flavour. Harvest the leaves as and when required once plants are well grown.
