Bred in France by the worldfamous Meilland company as part of their ‘Parfum de Provence’ programme, ‘The One and Only’ is bound to captivate anyone who sees or smells it. Each flower head is tightly packed with rich, crimson-red petals that look and feel like velvet, and are fully double - giving the appearance of an old-fashioned English rose. And here's the best bit... the scent of this hybrid tea rose is like no other - fruity, spicy, indulgent. Go ahead and make some space in your garden today and you will soon berewarded with a glorious display of top-quality, scarlet-red roses - cut your own stems for your loved one.

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Rosehips and petals can be used in making syrups and the petals will add flavour to cold drinks or fruit dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing roses with garlic, chives, thyme or mint to help deter aphids and blackfly.

Flowering Months
Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In winter, begin pruning floribunda roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce the stems to 20cm (10") above ground level. Side shoots should be reduced to two buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
Plant bareroot roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.

A perfect rose 2011-12-31

I bought this rose two years ago. The scent is lovely and the flowers are large and rich coloured, and last well when cut, and have nice long stems which make them superb for flower arranging. The nicest surprise were the two roses which were ready to pick for Christmas day. It is very easy to look after, I haven't really done anything for it since I bought it, and the leaves still look very dark green and healthy. I have just bought two more for gifts for other people. Highly recommended!
