A shrubby version of the classic False Acacia, Robinia pseudoacacia ‘Umbraculifera’ is the ideal alternative for a smaller space. Naturally a multi-stemmed shrub, it can also be trained to grow as a small tree which makes a stately presence in a garden without getting too big for its boots. Forming a dense, rounded crown, it has a much more formal and structurally neat and rounded appearance than the original tree. Cloaked in soft green leaves throughout the summer months, whether you grow it as a shrub or a tree it will create shade, shelter from winds and act as an effective screen. The spring flowers can be quite insignificant to look at, but they’re great for pollinators. Height: 6m (20’). Spread: 6m (20’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Robinia in sheltered borders in full sun, in any well drained garden soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils.
More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Robinia needs little pruning except for the removal of damaged branches or stems that spoil the shape of the plant. Prune in late summer or early autumn to prevent bleeding. Remove any suckering shoots that appear at the base of the plant to maintain a clear stem.
