  • Fragrant blooms followed by edible berries
Set against a backdrop of glossy green foliage, the pale yellow flowers with a spicy clove-like fragrance are produced in bunches at the tips of arching stems. The early spring flowers of Ribes odoratum are followed by edible black berries that often persist well into late summer. By autumn, the foliage turns to bright shades of red and purple. This fabulous flowering currant provides a long season of interest, and being tough and resilient, it will grow well in most gardens. Height and spread: 2m (6',6").

Flowering Months
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Ribes requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
Grow Ribes in a sunny position, in any well drained soil. Ribes odoratum will happily grow in a semi-shaded spot but may produce fewer flowers and berries. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Flowering Currant shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
