Flowering Months
Water ragged robin plants regularly until they are fully established. Lychnis flos-cuculi will self seed freely. Deadhead faded ragged robin flowers to prolong flowering and prevent unwanted seedlings. In autumn, cut back the old foliage and faded flower stems to just above ground level to make way for new growth in the spring.
Pot up ragged robin plants and grow them on in frost free conditions. When plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors into borders. Grow ragged robin in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, well drained soil that remains reliably moist in summer. Ragged robin is also suitable for clay soils, damp or boggy areas and around the edges of ponds.
